Two of our most esteemed guests at TEDxChapmanU will be Dr. Anthony Chang and Dr. Brenda K. Wiederhold. Dr. Chang is an internationally-recognized expert in the field of pediatric cardiology, and one of the founding members of the Asia-Pacific Pediatric Cardiac Society. Dr. Wiederhold’s focus is on the psychology of virtual reality, and she is the CEO of the Virtual Reality Medical Institute in Belgium. Although these doctors are in different worlds of medicine, their research has impacted thousands of patients’ lives and the medical world.
There is a vision embodied in TED Talks that searches for something more. Medically, that future includes the infinite possibilities that technology can provide. In his 2009 TEDMED Talk, Eric Topol spoke on the capabilities of smartphones to monitor vital signs. Topol's most recent novel, The Patient Will See You Now (2015), looks into how smartphones and technology are working together to create an entirely new, and more positive, way of seeing illness.
Drs. Chang and Wiederhold will no doubt provide insight to similar combinations of medicine and technology made to change the way we think about both. The more we recognize technology as a tool, the more we can accomplish with it.
